In recent years there has been a technological explosion in the world of personal computers. It seems that new products are being turned out on the regular to target people’s specific needs and demands. For the businessperson who is constantly on the move, lugging around large laptops can be cumbersome and awkward. Tablets are useful for displaying various media files, but accessing and working on these files can be difficult with a proper keyboard and mouse.
Ultrabooks are here to the rescue! While this term may be new to many of us, ultrabooks are a specific type of mobile laptop designed for life on the go. These laptops are geared towards those who want the portability of a tablet with the functionality of a proper computer. Essentially ultrabooks are laptops that are smaller in dimension (many under an inch thick!) and weight while again offering all the processing abilities of a proper computer. The concept is that they no longer require a large tote bag to transport them, instead being small and sturdy enough to place in briefcases or less bulgy side bag.
Solid-state hard drives have allowed these specialized laptops to shrink in size while retaining all the storage capabilities of their ancestors. Furthermore, solid-state hard drives allow the device to be much more durable to transport and move around. Often laptops fail or become damaged when the hard drive is still running and the computer is being physically moved from location to location, as the motorized traditional hard drives cannot be disturbed.
This is why ultrabooks are an excellent choice for those constantly on the go. While they are more durable and smaller in size and weight, they function just like a traditional computer, but with some of the features being offered in new technology. Some ultrabooks have available touch screens and traditional track pads, so extra equipment like a mouse and keyboard is not necessary. Extended battery life is also a key feature for those who don’t have the time to wait for a battery to be recharged. All these features combine to create a specialized laptop that will become more common in years to come.
